About the Denver Marching Knights |
“Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it” Proverbs 22:6 The Denver Marching Knights (DMK) was established as a non-profit organization August of 2001 for inner city youth between the ages of 5-21 as an alternative to street gangs and violence. DMK is dedicated to the achievement and advancement of all youth by giving them something to do in a safe and caring environment that helps to build positive leadership traits. Leadership building blocks include self- discipline, respect for self and others, self-reliance, personal responsibility, and keeping their priorities in order. Obedience to those in authority is a must. We are also committed to helping youth stay in school and church, along with encouraging them to be leaders and set examples for others. A positive attitude is required at all times. Parents are also encouraged to be actively involved in the Denver Marching Knights by volunteering in our fund raisers, becoming a booster, and attending practice sessions and performances. Parents are required to volunteer a minimum of five hours per month. “With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible” Matthew 19:26 We are here to build relationships, and work as mentors to the children in single parent households along with those lacking guidance and discipline at home. It is our goal to create and maintain excellence in the youth of today. Although the world is built upon material things, we strive to build our youth up with key points that will develop them into positive role models amongst their peers. Some of these key points are as follows: TO BE STRONG… Be strong. For you are not meant to dream, drift or play. You have much work to do and many loads to lift. Shun (don’t run from) the battle because you will face it as it is God’s will. EXCUSES Excuses are tools of incompetence used to build monuments of shame and nothingness. Those who use them are seldom good for anything at all. So do not have excuses for your actions, rather always be ready to take responsibility. For you and only you control your destiny. THE SECRET TO SUCCESS Achievement comes through brotherhood and vision. Never look back, yet never over look anyone, for you may be able to learn from him or her or their situations, and they may be able to help you later in life. PROMPTNESS To be on time is to be late, but to always be at least fifteen minutes early is to be on time. It shows that you care and vouches for your character. With out a good character nothing in life can be completed. |
